Bruce Tough Class A Director: Elected, Cochran's Crossing, Position #11 Mr. Tough is an attorney who is engaged in the legal practice of civil trial litigation in The Woodlands, Montgomery County and the surrounding counties. He has tried numerous cases in state courts throughout Texas. The areas of practice in which Mr. Tough has participated as a litigator representing plaintiffs or defendants include bankruptcy (Chapter 7, 13 and 11 debtors and creditors), criminal law, business representation (corporate formation and organization), contract, employment, business and construction litigation, personal injury (plaintiff and defendant representation), attorney ad litem and guardian ad litem representation, and family law litigation. Prior to establishing his own la w firm in 1987, Mr. Tough was employed as an associate with Thomson & Elkins, a creditor rights law firm who specialized in collection and business representation. He was also employed by Hartzog Family Restaurants, Inc. and performed duties as assistant to the president involving real estate acquisition, contract negotiation, employment law and business operations. He was also an intern in the Harris County District Attorney's Office participating in misdemeanor and felony criminal law prosecution.
LEGAL MEMBERSHIP Mr. Tough practices in all Texas courts, the United States District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, Western and Southern Districts of Texas, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas , the Houston Bar Association, Montgomery County Bar Association, the Woodlands Bar Association (Director 2006-7), the Federal Bar Association (Director 1990), College of the State Bar of Texas, Pro Bono College of the State Bar of Texas, and the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program. Mr. Tough served as presiding panel chair 4I 26 and 4I 25 State Bar of Texas Office of the Disciplinary Counsel (1999-2005). Mr. Tough has also been a licensed Real Estate Broker since 1982.
EDUCATION Born in Burbank, California and moved to Houston, Texas in 1968. Mr. Tough earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Houston in 1976, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center in 1980.
COMMUNITY AND ELECTED OFFICE Prior to his moving to The Woodlands, Texas in July of 1996, Mr. Tough was a member of the University Oaks Civic Association serving on the Deed Restriction Committee. Mr. Tough is a member of the University of Houston Athletic Foundation, Letterman - University of Houston "H" Association Life Member, University of Houston Alumni Association Life Member, Life Member of the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Association, 1998 Graduate Leadership Montgomery County, YMCA Partners of Youth Team 1998 - 2004, President of First Night of the Woodlands 2002, and is an elected Director to the Woodlands Community Association serving as its President in 2000 - 2005, He was co-chair for the Economic Outlook Conference held in The Woodlands, Texas 2006 - 2009. Mr. Tough also served as a director of the Chamber of Commerce for South Montgomery Chamber of Commerce 2003–2005 and 2006-2009 and was selected vice president of Economic Development and currently serves as vice president of legislative affairs. He is also a member of the Memorial-Hermann Hospital Advisory Board serving as Chairman. He is nominating chairman of Boy Scouts of America – George Strake District. He is the president of The Woodlands Fire Department and Chairman of The Woodlands Community Service Corporation, having served in those positions from 2000-2004 and 2006 to present. Mr. Tough was elected as a Conroe Independent School District Trustee for 2003–2006 and re-elected 2006-2009 having resigned after being elected to The Woodlands Township Board of Directors in 2008 and serves as Second Vice Chairman.
RECOGNITION Mr. Tough was honored as “Hometown Hero” for The Woodlands 30th Anniversary Gala and honored with Persons of the Year by “People Scene” – 2004. Mr. Tough was recently honored as Citizen of the Year by The Woodlands South Montgomery Chamber of Commerce in 2006.
PERSONAL Mr. Tough is married to Diana and has four children, Madison, Tara, Abby and Sydney.
